Supports You and Your Child

Tinkergarten is designed to support parents in raising healthy, confident and capable kids. Lessons offer open-ended guided play invitations that will engage in delight you and your child.

Hi, I'm Haley! A nature-loving mama of three amazing young kiddos. I am a trained Tinkergarten leader and have led classes here in Spokane since Spring of 2022. I grew up in Spokane and feel lucky to raise my family here near mountains, lakes, rivers, and parks galore! Spending time outside makes a good day even better and usually sets a tough day on a happier path. And it’s always more fun with friends, so let’s get outside and play together!

Class Policies

What ages does the program serve?

The program is designed for children ages 1-8 years. Children younger and older than that age range are welcome to enroll and families are encouraged to try a Free Trial when offered or Drop-In Class to see if it is a good fit for their explorer.

Can siblings come for free?

Siblings under 1 year of age may join at no cost. Siblings 1 year or older will need enroll in the class. A sibling discount of 25% is available after the first child is enrolled. If a sibling needs to attend due to scheduling change (eg. day off at school), they can attend up to two sessions without enrolling. Families are asked to notify the teacher if an extra child needs to attend for a session so they can prepare any necessary materials.

Are refunds offered?

If a refund is requested BEFORE the season of classes begins, families can receive a full refund or credit towards a future class. If a refund is requested AFTER the season of classes begins, families can receive a refund for half of the value of the remaining sessions in the season. Drop-In Classes will not be refunded but a credit will be available for another class in the same season.

Are credits or refunds offered for missed sessions?

Credits and refunds are not offered for classes missed by families. Families who subscribe can utilize their Tinkergarten Anywhere content if they miss a live class session. If more than 2 sessions in one series need to be canceled by the teacher without rescheduling, families are eligible for a refund for those canceled sessions.

Class Substitution Policy

If you are unable to attend class on your regular day, I have an open-door policy that enables enrolled families to attend the same lesson on a different day that same week if other sessions are offered that season. Please provide as much notice as possible via text or email that you plan to attend on a different day so that I can adjust class accordingly. Note that in the Tinkergarten spirit of getting outdoors in all four seasons, I will hold classes in rain or snow as long as the temperature and wind chill are safe.

What happens in inclement weather?

Decisions about whether it is safe to hold class are determined by using local weather guidance and a weather chart. I keep communications open in the days leading up to class so if I'm considering rescheduling, you'll know at least a few days before. For final weather-based decisions, I'll update families no later than 60 minutes prior to class, if not the night before, by email. Whenever possible, the session will be offered at another time the same week.

Photo Policy

Each enrolled family is asked for their photo-sharing/posting preferences regarding their child on the Registration Form. I usually have a 'Supporter' in each of my classes who helps me take photos to document our class' time together so that I can stay present and available while teaching. These supporters are adults whose own child(ren) are officially registered for the same session and they only share the photos they take with me. These photos are uploaded to a private gallery for the families in that specific class to look back through.

The only other place photos taken during class could be posted would be my professional Instagram page, printed marketing materials, or on my website. I never post photos of children without written consent from their caregiver and children's names are never shared anywhere other than in class - safety both in class and online is my top priority!

Class Safety Policy

Each "explorer" (child) is accompanied by a "guide" (parent or caregiver). Teachers support guides and do all that they reasonably can to provide a learning environment that allows for safe risk-taking. Teachers bring a First Aid Kit to class, which can be utilized by guides (attending adults) if needed. Allergies are documented and considered in lesson-prep before each class. Each lesson and its associated materials are age-appropriate and adaptable. Teachers encourage children to engage in risky play, but give clear redirection if or when safety and the safety of friends in the class could be compromised. For example, we celebrate that sticks are the #1 toy of all time, but we make sure that our sticks have plenty of space so they do not touch our friends' bodies. Any pertinent lessons on safety will be acknowledged before each lesson and sample language will be offered so that the teacher and guide can work as a team to keep all explorers safe!

Masks are not required, unless they are required by the municipality or organization that oversees the location in which Tinkergarten is being held. Eating or drinking should be done in “nests” with distance from anyone outside or participants' household (as opposed to carrying snacks around during class time). If there are allergies to make note of, I will communicate that to all enrolled families to promote mindfulness regarding snacks/potential allergens.

Hand-washing supplies or hand sanitizer will be provided for participants to wash hands as they arrive. If you or your child are feeling sick with something potentially contagious, it's preferred you stay home from class until symptoms have improved. Children/adults with fevers and/or contagious rashes cannot join class. You are always welcome to make up a class at a later date whenever possible - see Class Substitution Policy.
